Feels like they changed the formula

I used to like it when it came to white charcoal. For some reason it seemed a lot oilier than in the past and it was almost impossible to fade it out well while still keeping the rippled lines no matter what I did when I needed the white to come out. It wasn't much different than using white chalk on a blackboard.

Pros
  • Great range
Cons
  • Expensive

A must have with charcoal and mixed media

When I was learning to draw with charcoal and mix shadows we didn't have these cute beauties, hmmm, should have tried regular white chalk. Anyway I remember looking like a mechanic when I used charcoal lol my mom said you look like a fat monkey which means mechanic. It's not easy for ME to use those white bits as I wasn't taught them and there's still too much black mixed in. All this to say that they seem to be very good and worth the money. happy arts

  • Pretty packaging

Great Charcoal Great Price

I'm relatively new to the art but am learning new techniques. I started working with charcoal and really liked it, but wanted to add white. So I ordered white pressed charcoal sticks. They work very well for me, I'm very happy with how they work and fit together. It's charcoal, not chalk, so not for the blackboard. just for your information. They are best used on drawing paper or mixed media. You don't have to use thick card stock or watercolor paper. Any good quality drawing paper will do. I…

Generals White Charcoal Sticks

I had this product a while back and am sure I can review it so; Let's get straight to the benefits: - If you want something to show up on a dark paper surface, it can work with a bit of effort. - White highlights - Fast delivery. Now for the cons: - Requires a lot of pressure and layering to show well (I believe that's because it's mostly wax and almost no pigment). This pressure can warp the paper and make it less attractive*** This can be both for and against: charcoal creates a shiny surface

Pros
  • Charcoal
Cons
  • No Performance

Inconspicuous white charcoal with little use

Let me start by saying that I am indifferent to this product. My main use case was using an "aux trois crayons" stick along with charcoal and sanguine. They work but don't match some of the alternatives. Physically, they look just like any other Generals joystick I've used. Specifically, they look almost exactly like what I received in the Universal Pastel Pressed Chalk Sticks set and suffer from the same problem. I suspect they're extruded, sliced, and then baked, but the slicing is…
