The only durable can opener I know!

I love that they are durable and last longer than any regukar can opener I've bought from cheap to expensive! These are the best. The only reason there aren't 5 starts for each category is that I wish the company would make a larger version for us older people because we have those and then 1 larger version which is easier on older hands. Please make a larger version, we would even buy it for $10 each!

Pros
  • Great for me

Very good replacement

I got this set of 5 P 38 from HTS USA. They are very close to what I remember my original John Wayne was in 1981. I sort of got into the last of the C-Rats, before the MREs became widespread, "back in the Old Corps". I think the metal might be different than what I remember, but they're not far fetched at all. They feel sturdy, make a mark on canned tomatoes, and can be used as a screwdriver. It's my fault I lost my old John Wayne, but this makes a very good replacement!

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Some little things

You are the real deal.

Two packs of P-38 can openers were exactly as described and more importantly made by the same company as the ones I shipped in Vietnam. I still have one of those tags and apart from the discoloration on my original they are identical. The new one now takes pride of place on my bunch of keys. Are they easy to use? Short answer - I gave 5 stars because they are. longer answer. No, they are not very easy to use and not complicated. Maybe just a bit of a learning curve, but if you need to open a…

saved my life for kitchen and dining room

I kept one of these in my EDC backpack and it saved my life last week. Suddenly the elevator I was in was out of order. No light, no electricity, no idea what floor we are on. Luckily I had the EDC package. I pulled out a can opener and used it on flint and magnesium to start a fire off a piece of my shirt to kindle (must keep lighter fluid for worst emergencies etc). Nobody else knew what to do, so I used the spigot of a can opener to pry open the access terminal, found the wire that came…

Don't leave the basement without one or two.

As I wrote in the P-51 large opener review: I will not be the type to die with a full canning cellar and no can opener. Sized, they are suitable for a keychain or zip fastening. I've learned that a drop of hot glue right on the cutting tip will keep it in place for a long time so it doesn't snag on things in your pocket or backpack. But lets go when you need it without fuss. (Hot glue - warm up with a lighter!) If you need a little extra leverage, cut a small groove in the stick and insert the…

Love Story - Kitchen & Dining

My girlfriend moved out and took a can opener with her. However, she dropped the corkscrew. So after two bottles of forgotten white wine, I realized there was a dusty can of tuna and an unopened box of crackers in the back of the cupboard. Beauties for sale as novelties. Mine hung there on leather straps next to my nitroglycerin tablets. I took it, opened it and took a deep breath. This thing looked very much like something that could give me a nasty cut. But no! It worked well! The only thing…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction

  • No gun

The video shows how to use it and compares large and small sizes

Media could not be loaded. Personally, I prefer the simplicity of these small survival can openers over the much larger, heavier, and often messier hand-operated can openers. Of course it takes longer to open a jar, but I still prefer to be more connected to this much simpler technology. I keep a lot of these in my various rescue and emergency kits, but I also keep a few in the kitchen. In my opinion, they are a joy to use because of the absolute simplicity of their design. In my video I show…

I made a mistake. on bottle openers

PHYSI CS Why don't magnets work on some stainless steels? Stainless steels are iron-based alloys best known for their excellent resistance to corrosion, largely due to the concentration of chromium in the steel. There are different types of stainless steel. The two main types are austenitic and ferritic, each with a different atomic arrangement. Because of this difference, ferritic stainless steels are typically magnetic while austenitic stainless steels are not. Ferritic stainless steel owes…
