Description of πŸ›°οΈ Nooelec GOES Weather Satellite Mesh Antenna - 21dBi Parabolic Antenna with 1.7GHz Center Frequency, 200MHz+ Bandwidth, LMR400 Feed Cable (Male SMA Connector), Mounting Hardware, and 2-Year Warranty: Improve SEO

This 21dBi antenna is meant for high gain L-band applications where the antenna is stationary. The center frequency is 1.75GHz, and bandwidth is 200MHz or greater. This encompasses many popular weather satellite applications and constellations. Can be deployed for both linearly and circularly polarized signals (RHCP and LHCP). Software is required for the decoding of images. Current options are either free Linux-based decoders or a paid version of XRIT Decoder for Windows (a license is NOT included in this bundle!). A virtual machine can be used for Linux instead of a standalone Linux computer or Raspberry Pi, if preferred. Full 2 year warranty directly through Nooelec!.

Sturdy construction

This dish/antenna is a nice addition to my weather decoding projects, also added to my Gobox Cyberdeck, it doubles as a receiver and booster for the wifi hotspot I take with me on hikes

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • I'm writing back

Excellent results for AV accessories

I have an 8ft dish that I receive GOES 16 GRB on but I need a second system to receive Goes HRIT. I wasn't expecting much from this antenna but with the xrit software package I get 96% signal strength, 15-20 VT and great noise free images. Feel free to buy this antenna. I am very happy. By the way, with the help of Nooelec I have sawbird + lna on the antenna. Another great product.

Excellent GOES imaging results

I first mounted the antenna on a ball head tripod to get the azimuth, elevation, tilt and electronics working. I am using a Smartee SDR and SAWbird+GOES with a parabolic antenna mounted directly (in a PVC tube attached to the mast) and connected to my rPI4 with a 15ft USB-3 cable. I usually get <350 vit with no drops. I used this setup for the GOES-17 as well, but on our trees I mainly use the antenna for the GOES-16. Be patient with the alignment, it's a bit forgiving but should be close.

Pros
  • This 21dBi gain antenna is designed for high gain L-band applications when the antenna is fixed mounted. The center frequency is 1.75 GHz and the bandwidth is 200 MHz or more. This includes many popular applications for meteorological satellites and constellations
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about this, everything is fine
