Does not support soldering temperature

Terrible. The warm-up takes an hour. Doesn't retain enough heat to reliably melt 350 degree solder. Waste of money and a lot of time.

Hakko 557V-V12 200W Peerless Soldering Iron

The Hakko I received works perfectly. I like the on/off button. On first use it really smoked a lot; slightly less smoke on second use; and no smoke on the third use. Warms well and marks the wood. The only reason I gave it a three was because it's not UL rated. It doesn't really have a rating, which worries me because it doesn't necessarily conform to any standards or codes set in the US.

I had a call where I needed to replace a 6 gauge wire from a 24FET multilayer board with a 60mm x 100mm heatsink. Every soldering iron we've tried in the past simply removed the heat. In the past two 60w Hakko soldering stations have been used together with little success when the wire we removed was as short as possible. Soldering a new wire was impossible as the length would suck iron from the cold. This iron got the job done in seconds. Nothing short of amazing. Saved me from sending the…
