Type of review

This is a Japanese B006MQD7M4 adapted for the US market. Same heater, electronics, handle, everything except that the flexible two-wire Japanese cable was replaced with a very rigid three-wire cable. Obviously an afterthought that turns the cable into a soldering iron. Hakko US, we expect more for doubling the price of the Japanese version. This version will go back to Revain, I prefer B006MQD7M4.

Pros
  • Iron
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Expensive but worth it!

This is the American version of the FX600. That doesn't make it any better than the other versions in my opinion, but it's certified to run on 120V and if you run into any problems you can call on your warranty. As for the tool itself, as everyone else has said: accurate temperature settings, heats up quickly, works great, endless quality attachments available, superb build quality. If you are looking for a quality soldering iron then you have come to the right place. Too bad it doesn't come…

Pros
  • Soldering and Soldering Accessories
Cons
  • Expensive

Hakko 888 or 936 Station in Handpiece

As a long time Hakko 936 user I was looking for a similar soldering iron that I could use in the field or away from my desk or when work was taking too much time to return it to the lab. There are several adjustable irons similar to the FX600 and almost any manufacturer can design electronics to provide IPC J-STD-001 temperature control, but their weakness lies in the quality of their tips, the heater assembly if not the quality of the iron itself. The price is similar to the FX600, why bother…

Pros
  • Soldering Iron and Soldering Iron
Cons
  • Something Else
