Many size to choose, thicknes 3mm, 17oz./sq.yd. Welding blanket made of tear resistant carbon and won't hurt your skin. Greater efficiency in heating and cooling. Temperature resistance of 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Widely used for draping over equipment or floor surfaces in welding areas,or as a vertical shield to protect from sparks, spatter, and slag.
I bought this to use as a wick for some home made spirit lamps (cat cookers). It does the job really well. Undamaged after repeated burning tests and use. It is very soft and easy to use. I can easily trim it with regular scissors. Sparks and flames don't seem to bother him. With significant burns, the fibers sometimes "flare up" with heat, but once the flame source is removed, the fibers stop "burning." I can easily see it protecting surfaces from burns, fire or spark damage when used byβ¦
I used several of these blankets to wrap an aluminum casting for welding once it came out of the preheat furnace. The ceilings gave off so much smoke that the fire alarm went off and luckily our system called us before the fire department was called. The cast was only heated to 750 degrees, well below the advertised 1800 degrees. In addition, wherever the casting pressed against the ceiling, it pressed it and left (jaws) the contour of the part. This compressed area conducts heat much fasterβ¦
I bought this to replace a much smaller Oatey Flame Retardant/Thermal Coating that I bought for soldering copper tubing in small spots next to flammable pins. I tested this with an open flame from MAP-Pro, and while it smoked a lot more than an oatey blanket, it did protect the wood behind it from burning when the hot open flame was aimed directly at it. The other side was warm to the touch after one side had been exposed to an open flame for a few seconds and there was visible discolorationβ¦
