I used several of these blankets to wrap an aluminum casting for welding once it came out of the preheat furnace. The ceilings gave off so much smoke that the fire alarm went off and luckily our system called us before the fire department was called. I bought this to replace a much smaller Oatey Flame Retardant/Thermal Coating that I bought for soldering copper tubing in small spots next to flammable pins. I tested this with an open flame from MAP-Pro, and while it smoked a lot more than an oatey blanket, it did protect the wood behind it from burning when the hot open flame was aimed directly at it.
