Well-made hooks provide a secure way to keep mugs secure. They are also great for a completely different purpose: I have used these hooks to attach garlands and flowers to my faux mantel as well as other wooden wall decorations. They hold securely, but the garlands/flowers are also easy to remove so I can swap them out depending on the season or if I want to change the accent colors in the room.

When setting up my new studio I needed a way to get some of the temporary cables out of the way but not difficult to remove. These hooks are great for headphones and power cords that need temporary placement for specific recording needs. I know it's not what they intended to use. But they do a great job of holding the wires in place and allowing for easy removal. Cups are here but I can see how good they would be for ships and potentially seismic areas.

Instead of cups I use these to hold the electric blanket cord off the floor under the bed as the slightest force on it can loosen the contact at the end of the plug. This resulted in a cold blanket and an E indicator (as in Error) on the nightstand panel, which annoyingly is usually not noticed until it's time to slip under the covers. To state the obvious, the detail that keeps the cups from coming off the hooks keeps my duvet cord in each hook attached along the bed rail, freeing up the space
