I have LOTS of shoes and have tried different organizers to store them. the door is fully open, then fabric, which is also placed on the door, but so heavy that the door does not lock. This one solves all of my problems as it pivots for easy access but is only 12 inches in diameter. I wanted to get my shoes out of these hanging bag items because that way they took up valuable space. After reading the reviews I chose this one because it has more storage space and is much stronger than other similar ones. Took me about 15 minutes to assemble and it fits in all my shoes (boots are stored elsewhere). I wear size 9M shoes and had no problem fitting them onto the steps. The floor is heavy — 3-5 pounds I think — so when assembled and loaded with shoes, it's stable and doesn't tip
