Description of ๐Ÿ“ธ Hoya 67mm NDx8 HMC: Enhance Photography with Neutral Density Filter

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, cars, etc. To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background. To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (ie: above ISO400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations. To allow video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which would normally cause overexposure.

So far so good. The filter is a bit dark, I would recommend ND4 but I hate sending things back so I'll work with that and see if it can be handled. From the few shots I took over the weekend, I haven't seen any weird lighting conditions/flyaways that some people claim to have seen with similar or cheaper filters. The glass is clear and doesn't seem to have any weird coating issues. I will try to update the next review in about 3-6 months.

Pros
  • To use slow shutter speeds to capture the movement of objects such as waterfalls, clouds, cars, etc.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other options

Affordable ND Filter

After several hours of searching for a cheap and good quality filter I settled on this one. Of course I wanted to buy a B+W, but I just didn't want to spend over $100 on a filter as I'm just an amateur photographer. ND8 is perfect for a bright, sunny day when the strong light doesn't allow you to adjust the settings to get a good shot. I tested it in very bright daylight and photographed a sunflower against a very light blue sky. I was able to take a quality photo because darkening the lensโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Allows camcorders (with fixed exposure) to capture subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that would normally result in overexposure.
Cons
  • It was possible to choose a newer model

Control bright light.

I needed to be able to use a slow shutter speed or a wide aperture during the day. I've had some success with a polarizing filter, but needed even more flexibility. I tried a cheap brand ND filter but it had a very strong red cast. In addition, it was not layered, which could sometimes lead to glare. I didn't want to live with a red cast "neutral" filter so I sent it back. This filter is about three times the price, but here's what you get for the extra money: - the filter is truly neutralโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Reduces depth of field by using a larger aperture to better separate subjects from their background.
Cons
  • High price
