YES they will rust if not washed and dried. Salt and other de-icing agents are corrosive and you should treat all steel products exposed to these chemicals with care. They stay on my boots and are easy to put on and take off even with boots on. They grip well on slippery surfaces and don't form ice balls like microspikes. They offer a larger surface area than micro lugs, giving you smoother traction and better performance on clean road surfaces.

I bought the next size up because my Keen snow boots have a molded round rubber toe cap and no protruding outsole to keep the rubber from slipping off the cap. I'm wearing XL over a set of Columbia Bugaboot winter boots, size 44. I work on a construction site in Boston so I always walk on ice, mud, then concrete, then Rubble then bulldozers etc. I've always used yaktrac in the past which work fine but you can't walk on them.
