Works in my Dell Precision T7920 after field modifications

I bought this adapter to install a 2TB Western Digital M.2 SATA SSD in my Dell Precision T7920 as Dell was unable to to deliver equivalent parts in a timely manner. After receiving a second email from Dell about a shipping delay, I searched Revain and found this adapter. Inserting the SSD into the plastic case was very easy. However, the adapter didn't fit snugly in the T7920's 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA cage. I had to cut 2 blocks of wood and drill some holes for the adapter to hold its position…

Pros
  • Comfortable to use

The old drive was dead, the new drive worked fine and was formatted for the operating system, the thermal sensor is ready to use. that just left this converter/case. We've concluded that the clamshell design, intended to…

Pros

Limited to the sheet metal fabrication process.

Due to a possible delay in delivery, I ordered a similar plastic version (Icy Dock MB882SP-1S-2B) of this product at the same time. In the end, both arrived on the same day, giving me the opportunity to carefully compare and choose which one to use for my SSD installation task. I went for this metal version and it works (after trying without SSD installed). recognized by the system, treated by withdrawing the caddy, fiddling with the adapter without really changing anything, then reinstalling).

Pros
  • All-metal and reinforced chassis with easy access to drives.
Cons
  • Discontinued model
