Best card reader

The most powerful chip card reader I have ever used. I travel extensively and am in the Navy Reserve. I needed a reliable and self-sufficient card (ie one that installs its own drivers). This card ticks all the boxes. It feels solid and works flawlessly. Within 10 minutes of opening the package, I was online on all CAC restricted websites with my CAC enabled DoD certificate. My only complaints about the product are the USB port and problems using my Macbook. It's a bit fragile where it connects

Really defective disposable product

I bought this product to have access to military connections to be able to work from home. complete failure. The product only worked once the first time, then I had to move. Packed into a backpack, then tried to use it a second time. Now the indicator of the cac device does not light up. The website reads my credentials, but when I click my credentials, my computer says "connect smart card device" even though it's connected. Very upset. I'm about to roll out and this defective product set me…

Good card reader with interrupt

I give this device 5 stars regardless of price and design because it works without interruption. I've bought about 4 card readers in the last 5 or 6 years (hoping to get one that always works) and I've always had problems with them. This is the first one I haven't had constant problems with. Other card readers I've had have always had trouble "talking" to the USB port, ie. occasional "ding/dong" of disconnection and reconnection. I've had this device for a very long time and have used it not…

UPDATE: Died after a week of using it twice. I'm sending it back and I'm annoyed. Is this an anomaly or was that to be expected? That's my burning question. More and more people are having issues but not bothering to update and return reviews? Hm. Go ahead and buy and see for yourself I guess. I think I'll try another replacement product as I don't want to risk buying it again. First review: Hooked it up to my Gov laptop and it worked straight away, no problem. Well packaged, arrived on time…

Item of dubious authenticity.

This smart card reader was packaged in bubble wrap with part number stickers, some bar codes, an ESD warning, and a sticker directing me to a website. There was no box, labeled envelope, documentation, or anything else that led me to believe this reader was packaged by the original manufacturer. Since USB devices should automatically load drivers/software, I take great care when connecting this device to my computer. I also bought this reader to use my work smart card, a secure login device, on

Works well for remote access VA PIV CAG with MacBook Pro

P/N 905331 I was having fits to get this to work on MacBook Pro (OS 10.10.5) when I asked for remote access to the system from OTP VA converted to PIV. The problem was NOT with the card reader (it is on IDmanagement.gov's approved list). The problem was the recommended card reading software. After migrating from Centrify to OpenSC and removing the old ID keys and passwords from my keychain, the reader works like clockwork. If you are planning to upgrade from OTP to PIV for Mac remote access…
