One of the disks did not work directly from .

One of the drives did not work right out of the box. The manufacturer (Hitachi) has stated that they will not replace it as these are OEM drives and should not be sold separately. Since I haven't installed this drive for the first 30 days, I can't return it to Revain.

Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • No

Avoid like Covid-19!

3 of 3 dead, 2 out of box. Return 2 within the warranty period as DEFECTIVE and incur a 20% restocking fee. An absolute joke for the discs that arrived DOA.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Damaged

Very noisy, very disappointed.

The drive itself works fine, the problem is noise. It's like the paper rubbing against a running fan. It is very noisy when you try to access files on the hard drive or write something to the drive. However, I've been using it for almost a year and it hasn't died. While I'm not sure if they sent me a defective drive, first impressions are getting worse.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

Bought from "AMTECH " seller - nice packaging

It's time to upgrade my DAW's Areca RAID-5 array from the outdated Seagate 7200.12 1TB I'm currently using and to extend. These Hitachi 2TB HUA722020ALA330 Enterprise models are on the Areca hard drive compatibility list and AMTECH had them at a great price (cheaper than the new WD Reds and much better quality overall). Although these particular HUA722020ALA330 drives are no longer manufactured by Hitachi. (I had a production date of "August 2010" on it - I bought them in April 2013) - They…

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Gone

Failed after one month - no returns allowed.

Error after one month - return not allowed. I bought it because I heard the Hitachis are more reliable than the green WD drives - I was tired of replacing them. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the Hitachi was IMPRESSIVELY out of service less than a month after I took it out of the box, that I had to use special software to recover my data (not all) and that neither Revain nor HGST will do so don't take them back. Weight.

Pros
  • Waiting for
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

One of the best hard drives for reliability

I really liked these drives *knock on wood* Some of them have been running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no problems for many years. Performance isn't bad either (for a hard drive). According to Backblaze, these are some of the most reliable drives out there.

Pros
  • Sturdy build
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Part numbers matter

The drive specified is a Hitachi HUA (Hitachi Ultra Star) floppy drive. This is an expensive, enterprise-rated drive. There is a very similar part with the HDS (Hitachi Desk Star) prefix. Ultra Star is designed for 24/7 server usage. Desk Star (HDS722020ALA330) is designed for desktop use with far fewer hours per year. If you pay for HUA, make sure you get it.

Pros
  • Good thing
