Better than described

This ribbon is better than described. I applied it to the top of my bars and stringers (black shiny streaks in the photo). I wish I had known that 10 years ago or I wouldn't have changed my strings. The tape will withstand multiple steps and stops to install railing posts and the tape will not pick up the screws. If you are looking to extend the life of your exposed decking support structures, this material is easy to work with.

Great value joist tape that works as advertised

I had old but dry joists that were in great shape. So I plugged the old nail holes and any cracks in the wood and then installed this joist tape. It worked great. The glue is so thick and tacky that I believe it holds in moisture and also seals in new nails/screws going into the joists. The project required 5 rolls of tape so the cost of the tape was reasonable to protect the joists for another long period.

  • Works great for me

Strong, works great!

I used Imus Seal butyl tape to build a boat dock. It feels like pretty hard work. Worked fine for my application. I used masking tape to cover the deck joists and frame. I also used it for the areas of the abutment where the framework connects. Some areas have been specially treated with the polysealant from my putty gun. The weak points of pressure treated lumber are the wood/wood interfaces and attachment points. Imus Tape is easy to apply and perfect for this application. I expect this tape…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Requires an outlet

I originally wanted to create a moisture barrier between my new outdoor deck ladder stiles and the Trex decking I used for my ladder, and found another bonus. On some other deck joists where I have used copper brown wood preservative on the cuts and where those surfaces were in direct contact with the underside of Trex composite panels, the wood preservative seeped into the boards and discolored them significantly! Wherever I've used this tape, there hasn't been any washout or discoloration…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Ease of maintenance

Exactly the same as the Trex but cheaper than $

. We ordered 7 rolls of Imus to protect our deck frame as the wider 3 1/8" was not available from Revain we also purchased a roll of Trex Protect Beam Butyl Tape 3 1/8". As far as I can tell the two products are exactly the same except for the packaging pattern - the cellophane tape that secures the roll has the same tape pattern and cuts. Imus is cheaper too! As for the material itself, it's very trustworthy - heavy, strong and the adhesive is AMAZINGly sticky. If you're used to Grace Vycor…

Solid Product - Butyl Tape

So I used it for my first deck project in a long time. I've seen a lot of people use them and I want to try it. It seems that for a few dollars, the lifespan should be extended. Of course, I can't judge whether that worked. But here's what I think... It wasn't difficult to install. Very sticky so cloth gloves helped. Two people really speed things up. We have folded all of our straps as recommended by Zipper, but this manufacturer does not offer this. If you mess it up, you can retract and fix…

Don't build a soundboard without it

We are repairing the soundboard due to an issue these bands are designed to prevent. Several boards and floor joists were rotten and had to be replaced. This tape seems to be an ingenious solution to the problem of dirt and moisture collecting in the gaps between the planks above the joists. The tape came off easily. It was a good idea to cut off pieces of tape before going up the stairs to tape it. It's best not to struggle with the roller when applying the tape, especially if you're four…

Pros
  • Quality construction

  • Everything is fine

Great insurance for our new Trex deck!

I recently installed about 800 feet of these on a very large deck we built in Florida. The previous solid wood floor had rotted away. We're replacing this deck with a 25 year old Trex and using ground contact wood for the beams and frames. The previous frame rotted from top to bottom, mostly due to penetration of the bolts that attached the wooden deck. I wanted this deck to have as long a life as possible. As this is brand new I don't know if the joist tape will work for its intended purpose…
