I love this thing on hard drive cases

A few years ago I bought a similar item that got me wanting to mount my hard drive in a bracket. It was terrible. This item works right out of the box. Just slide your internal hard drive into the correct slots and plug it into your device's USB port and it's an external hard drive. I use it to recover files from an old Linux box to a new one.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • disappears

Connection keeps dropping

Just bought. Attached an old 3TB drive to get some info from it. Spins the drive up and then falls out of the system in less than a minute. The drive is fine as I can connect it to my old USB 2.0/SATA adapter. I bought this because I was hoping to get data faster. I ended up having to use my old adapter. It took a lot longer, but at least it works, unlike this crap.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons

Best Computer Accessories and Peripherals

Several attempts were made but this device worked as advertised. However, when I accessed my old hard drive, my computer thought it was clearly not a drive. Then when it finally figured out it was a hard drive, I sifted through the information it stored and got to the start menu file and that's when it stopped giving me access to my old hard drive. Now at a loss how to get it to go back to the "My Computer" window because it won't read it now.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Null

My worst purchase? - Computers and accessories

I bought this to read data files from my old IDE hard drives. Of the dozens of disks I tried to read, only one file system was recognized. The rest either didn't recognize the disks at all or said they needed to be formatted. Luckily I had some old external IDE drive cases and many of the IDE drives were recognized when placed in them. I already had a docking station for my SATA drives, so I didn't have to try it.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Exorbitant price

Perfect fit for what I need

I had 17 old hard drives from machines made in the distant past including several laptop hard drives and I needed to check what was on them and then " McAfee destroys you. With the exception of two old drives that were over 20 years old, this unit worked perfectly, just what I needed. Connecting and disconnecting drives is very easy, and the power button is convenient. I'm keeping a few higher capacity drives and will be using them to hook up for external storage.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Communication with seller

SIMPLE connection of cables. Didn't use instructions.

only 1 error, i opened explorer and didn't see the old disk. I wasn't able to flip the small power switch on the unit to the "ON" position and turn it on. I have recovered very, very old hard drives, even SATA hard drives. without a catch. A NOTICE. With SATA hard drives, you do NOT need to use a "power cable" between the device and the SATA hard drive. One more thing, unplugging the power cord from an OLD hard drive requires a lot of wiggling. here and there. I highly recommend this device.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • clarity

Works with IDE CD-ROM; does not work with 3 1/2 " SATA hard drive

This item does not work when I try to use it with a 3 1/2" WD SATA hard drive. Windows Event Viewer reports {Lazy Write Error} Windows could not save all data for file G$BitMap. The data has been lost. This error can be caused by a hardware or network connection error on your computer. Try saving this file somewhere else. This thing works fine for reading CDs from the IDE drive I bought it for. I was hoping to get rid of my old DockMaster SATA docking station, but I think I'll have to keep…

Loaded with viruses/political tirades. IDE issues.

I bought it to migrate data from old IDE drives. It seems to work fine with SATA, but not with IDE. Awkward power supply from device to IDE but ended up connected and stayed connected. There is no indication of how the contact settings should be. On Maxtor I tried Master, Slave, Cable Select but while the HDD was spinning up there was nothing on the monitor. I haven't tried laptop hard drives, so I can't comment on that. As for political tirades, I wonder what else Inatek has loaded onto my…

Converting old drives to new storage

I had a bunch of old hard drives and kept moving them to an economical large drive. Found 5TB on Prime Day and was looking for a good universal reader. Any discs not known to be dead could still be read. All is well. I bought this brand because I already had an Inateck external drive enclosure that has been working great for quite some time. There seems to be a glut of brands out there, all including this one aren't household names in the US, but I'm happy with this device. Compact, includes…
