Was just a trick - wall panels

Our outdoor lighting is controlled by a solar switch like this one. This summer we noticed that the lights wouldn't come on. The electrician wanted to charge us $300 to go out so I figured I'd just replace the solar cell and see if that was the problem (this has happened before). Indeed it was, and the wiring was simple and straightforward.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Electrical so far so good

I bought this to replace a worn block. Incidentally, it was almost identical to the original, which made installation much easier. Only three wires need to be connected. To confuse you they put a yellow wire behind the black pad, I have no idea where it goes. There was no such wire in the original unit. So I ignored it and left it like that. while it works fine.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Poor manual

Good value for money for reliable twilight control

Sensitive photocell for twilight control. I live in Phoenix so I had to make an ND filter to prevent the evening sun from wearing out the sensor prematurely. This means the light will stay on a little longer than usual, but the sensor will also work for 5 or more years compared to around 2 years without it. The relay is powerful enough for a few hundred watts but uses LEDs to keep the load at a reasonable level.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Compatibility

It works best in electrical

I installed this product three weeks ago and it works fine. However, it takes more than 60 seconds to turn it on or off. I thought it was broken so I put a voltmeter on it, covered the sensor and waited. It took about a minute and the power was on. I opened the sensor and after about a minute it turned itself off. My only minor gripe is that there were no bezel screws in the kit (but I had them) and no wiring instructions but I found them online.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Limited reliability

I bought my new house in 2014 with one of these Tork RKP311's installed. In December 2021, the outside light went off much later in the morning and on much earlier in the evening, so it was on most of the day. So I replaced it with the same device. It wouldn't turn on the light after dark unless I tap it hard. I checked and cleaned the electrical connections and reinstalled. Same problem, although the lamp went out in the morning. I'm ordering another one and returning the first one I boughtโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Crumpled
