I've found that some of the cheaper installation 'kits' come with wires advertised as 8 gauge wire, but if you can actually get them, you'll find them something like 14 gauge wire. with lots of thick insulation. This wire is 8 gauge thin copper wire with good insulation. It is easy to use, behaves very well and seems to meet the advertised specifications. I ran the InstallGear cable from the battery to the amp in my car. After about 18 months the plastic insulation (housing, whatever) broke at various exposed spots in the engine compartment exposing the copper conductor. I have no idea why the case failed - I suspect the plastics just don't hold up well to the heat/time in the car's environment. Good deal I just want a little help with the wire size really needed, all car radios will tell you to use 4 gauge or larger for my 750 and amp rated should choose from 1200 watts.
