Good but a few flaws

This is a good little hammer but I expected more from a hammer made by and for Japanese artisans. It weighs approximately 14 ounces and has a beautiful, typically Japanese, minimalist design and look. One side is slightly convex and the other flat. I noticed a few unexpected flaws. First, the neck of the handle is rectangular and almost unfinished. As a result, the edges are actually quite sharp. There's nothing sandpaper can't do. Maybe that's on purpose? Second, the head is not in the center…

Japanese steel hammer with 300 gram octagonal head, 12 inch wooden handle, flush and convex surfaces

a head that has a slightly curved striking face while being flat. The curve is quite faint and I will mark the hammer with a marker on the side of the flat surface to easily distinguish the two faces. The handle is made of oak, not varnished or oiled. The hammer feels good in the hand and is well balanced with a weight of 14.1 ounces (300 grams). I liked the polished Japanese steel bezels.
