Great for walking and talking.

After spending the day chatting with people about VHF and DMR who have this new microphone attached to my harness. The audio was loud and clear enough to be heard. Unlike my smaller Kenwood, the 45D's sound is rich, loud and clear. The different levels of incoming DMR weren't a disadvantage, which was a pleasant surprise. So far I'm very happy with it. It was great for walking and talking.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Some nuances

Too expensive due to lack of clarity and sound quality

I have several Baofengs that also use a Kenwood microphone. Bought someone else's brand for $9.99 a few months ago. Switched to this Kenwood and was surprised that the sound quality is identical to my $9.99 mic. Audio reports, other radio amateurs could not distinguish them. Tried this as well as inexpensive mics on 2 radios, 3 repeaters with the same results. Not worth the $65 label.

Loud and clear for portable audio and video

I don't care what the Chinese brand says about their quality control. You can't hear someone through their speaker and forget to transmit if your mic is covered in snow or mud. Bottom line, I use it for critical communication in the backcountry. In the snowstorm I was able to contact the other side. The cheap Chinese alternative was a toy. If you have a powerful tool in your communications arsenal, do yourself a favor and don't settle for a cheap imitation. Get the original when your lifeโ€ฆ

Excellent quality, worth the price!

I am a radio amateur and bought this speaker mic to replace the Boafeng speaker mic I had for my Baofeng UV5R. I used this to communicate between two cars during our vacation. The sound quality is excellent both when sending and when receiving. This is a high performance microphone with speaker and high quality as advertised. Of course it also works with Kenwood portable radios. I would highly recommend it over the much cheaper Baofeng mic. It costs a lot more but doesn't have the transmissionโ€ฆ

Genuine Kenwood product, at least when purchased direct from Revain

Great microphone and speaker, probably for any portable transceiver that uses a 2-pin Kenwood connector. I bought it for TYT MD-390 and it worked very well. It feels good in the hand and the PTT button has a nice, predictable click, not spongy like some cheap speaker mics. So if you need a more powerful speaker mic with good volume and sound quality both ways, then this is a good choice. Important: What I bought (supplied and sold by Revain) was genuine. As with any other branded accessoryโ€ฆ

  • Best in class

Quality Microphone - CB & Talkback Radios

I drive a forklift and carry the radio microphone behind my back and on my right shoulder. Part of my route goes through the press room, very noisy! Even with this mic, I don't have to turn up the volume to hear clearly. The connection to the radio is strong and remains. During the shift I jump on and off the loader several times, sometimes I walk and overcome obstacles. The clip behind the mic itself attaches very well to my shirt. I bought 2 of these with my own money, no regrets! And I don't
