I love that this tie clip feels sturdy and will definitely protect your ties. One problem is that it's a lot of extra weight. This is the main compromise.

Love the size and design of this tie case. Two ties and a tie pin could have been taken on a short business trip if it weren't for the overly strong unpleasant smell. I don't want to risk my ties or other luggage picking up that bad smell. I can't easily detect an unpleasant smell. It's a mix of musty and chemical.

I can confirm that the product has a slight odor but it's not that bad. A simple remedy is to use scented sheets to soften the fabric. The product comes in a large ziplock plastic bag. Take out the item, put two sheets in the case, then put two sheets on each side of the outer case, then put it back in the zip case and leave it like that for a few days. And it's probably not a bad idea to keep a sheet or two with your ties when you travel.
