My 6 year old grandson received the 2019 edition as an early Christmas present. He loves Lego but doesn't have many people or other unique items. He loved it and couldn't wait to open a new door every day to see what new surprise was waiting for him. He assembled a new piece of Lego over breakfast. This is our first LEGO Advent Calendar and we are on day 6. and so far i have a ziplock bag with extra parts and ones that don't even fit properly. For example, on a snowman figure, he should be holding a mug of hot chocolate. Well we got 2 pieces of brown chocolate but none of them fit in the cup piece as shown in the picture unless I turn it over, in which case it just doesn't look right. We bought a Friends set and a City set for the kids. Friends Recruitment offered a Christmas decoration each day which the kids thought was very unique and cool. It will be nice to have them later when you take the hook off, or they can use them for the mini tree next year. This was our first kit and we give it a 5/5 for value and daily activity. My only 2 complaints: 1) The cardboard on the outside is not glued to the foam frame on the inside. So when we got our kids to put their daily creations back outside at the end of the day to avoid losing them, they often fell behind the cardboard into the compartment below. And sometimes he got stuck behind a door that couldn't be opened for days or more. I buy it as a gift for my nephew and kids in October/November every year because they look forward to something interesting. They get so many toys that the parents appreciate the gift to open later. I've also used them as a reward for the kids as an incentive (good behavior/bringing home a full work pack from school) although decorated in a Christmas theme the doors are numbered so you can use them anytime. The City Advent Calendar is the one I choose every year. This year I will also be gifting my grandson a set of his own (he turns five this month and is building well beyond his years). I also bought Hot Wheels for him but as soon as I saw this set I decided to give him Hot Giving Wheels its birthday month, not for the holidays.
