It works well just the way you think it should. Yes, it can break since it's plastic, but if you don't abuse it too much, it's pretty durable. It fits a regular 20ft tape measure, I have a 25ft thick Husky tape measure and it's a bit big but it fits me, the blade just hangs down. I have three of these now. I like the idea of storing pencils in one and long screwdrivers in the other; the third is in a different location with more pins. The tray holds the tape measure perfectly. They seem to have improved the pencil sharpener over time as my new sharpener works decently.
