I have used this pump for aeration in my hydroponic setup. It makes a lot of noise and lasted about a year before becoming ineffective. If the pump were made more precisely and to better tolerances, it would be quieter and potentially cooler. Because the parts are a loose fit with a lot of play, this causes a lot of rumble and friction, which leads to heat and noise.

I have bought these picks twice in the last 6 years. Performance is perfect for my 5000 gallon pond and lasts a long time with daily use. I recommend buying or building a small "pump station" to protect it from the elements. I have a styrofoam cooler with the front and back open for airflow. Styrofoam also helps deaden noise since it's a bit noisy.

I am unable to test what appears to be a noisy pump because the hose I ordered to go with it is the wrong size. According to the description it is 3/8". and it is not ! Now I have a 25" 3/8" ID hose that I can't use. Returning the hose will cost more than buying it. I'll get an adapter from 1/4" to 3/8" so I can use that.. Such a simple thing to mess up, but it's listed as a question and answer right in the description of the pump.

This pump produces a lot of air for the price. As one reviewer wrote, this unit is probably drawing over 35W. More like 45 or 50. And it gets quite warm. Running without back pressure creates a loud noise that can damage the pump. Plan to repeat the drain with a larger diameter pipe. I've used this pump almost constantly for the past two months to aerate a four foot deep pond and have had no problems or loss of performance.

Seller claims the outlet is 3/8" so I bought this pump and a spool of weighted 3/8" hose. The 3/8" hose is too big for the outlet fitting. Now I can spend half a day walking around looking for a way to convert it. Unsatisfied! I will update this review on how well the pump works once I get to use it. March 2021 update. I bought an 8 inch ID pipe. This pump ran 24/7 for exactly 12 months with no back pressure (i.e. no stone at the end). I think it's not bad for $38.
