The holes are small which is what I wanted. I use a Scotch Brite washcloth. Care must be taken when doing this, as the material of the sponge can get into the "net" if you roughly clean it with it.

I really like this sieve. They are very high quality and will not rust in the dishwasher. My only complaint is that the spices sometimes get stuck between the sieves because they are so good. I also use a lot of ground pepper, and sometimes I get caught and have to use the toothbrush I keep in the kitchen for those occasions. Basically I am very satisfied with these screens. I use the smallest to strain the tea and the mesh is thin enough to catch even very fine loose tea but big enough for the liquid to flow through easily. The mesh appears to be of very good quality and is attached to the wide rim, I don't expect it to snap or detach from the rim any time soon. I like that the handles have a plastic grip. Handle on my largest rusted and broke within 5 months of original purchase date (19th September). seemed solid, now it's completely rusty and broken. I only use it for small dinners for two. Always hand wash (pretty easy to clean) as we don't make enough dishes to use the dishwasher. Disappointed, but others are ok so far. Stainless steel should never rust after a few months.
