Not as soft as cotton or satin, but not rough or huggable like some I've used before. I received all the colors in the photo but they weren't matte like in the picture. Very bright colors shine. I have black, white, teal, baby blue, red, pale pink, very dark brown, yellow, pink, pale purple, silver gray and pale green, not mint but all very nice colors. 80 feet per 1mm strand. I bought this for beadwork but it is too thick. I can't even thread it through a beading needle. If you cut it, it will wear out and won't come loose like embroidery floss. It's more like a thin rope. It ties well so it can make good friendship bracelets or macrame, but it's also shiny and slippery, comes in twisted long coils, and is a complete mess to try and untangle. This set has a lot of thread to use. I really liked it but didn't know how to store all this string. Lots of things got mixed up, but I was able to untangle them with a little patience. If you are looking for a cheap good yarn then this would be great for you but watch out for tangles as it gets tangled very easily, at least for me.
