No tongue that allows the child's foot to bend to fit in the shoe. The hole isn't much wider than his toe. Basically, the child should appear almost like a ballerina on pointe shoes in order to then slip into the shoe and awkwardly stretch the leg. It is impossible for a child aged 4 to carry it alone.
