MagMod P 007009 MagBounce Review

Maybe it was my lack of attention to detail but I was not aware that this product would not work without another product attaching it to a flash would. After making another purchase it worked as advertised. It's perfect for travel as it gives me all the light I need without having to carry a large light fixture and light box.

Fantastic quality of light. I use it at weddings for formal group shots in churches where I don't have time to set up full lighting and the quality and power delivery is fantastic. I've tried a few other devices but they didn't produce enough spread, there was always a slight dip when I was shooting groups of 6+, but it worked.

I get great photos with this pair because I can get a good beam of ambient light on the subject. The only downside is that the list of flashes you can use it with isn't as big as I expected. Of my four ETTL flashes, two are on the list but only one is working properly. I've checked with the company about what they offer, but haven't received a response yet.

Got this to complement some other MagMod products. I like the MagMod system because it's much neater and cleaner than Rube Goldberg/DIY/Velcro products. Surprisingly I love how it works, like a little softbox. Light does not scatter, but more compact. At first I thought it looked weird, like some weird sex toy or something, but it does the job and after a while I stop thinking about it.

I like the result. I was photographing a wedding with another photographer and was surprised that she used it to light the entire wedding while using flash and octagons. Of course, our photos are different, but I figured that might save me in a tight space. But on my flash it is very bulky and heavy. Especially when I have it installed on the camera. Aside from a professional setup with multiple remote flash units, this device is a godsend! I used it outdoors with TTL and it got rid of the ugly shadows in bright sunlight. A NOTICE. You need to buy a separate magnetic flash adapter. Also note that I think the whole setup is a bit heavy and it would be advisable to use a camera flash mount and cable. Mag Bounce works very well. I just took a quinceanara from him in a very dark senior center. MagBounce diffuses the light very well. Easily crumples up in my gear bag. As you can see from the attached picture, the light in the room was very dim. The light for the shot came solely from the camera's flash with the MagBounce attached.
