Based on our own experience, we found the MAHLE Original OX 404D ECO to be a disappointment. The advertised performance gains were not noticeable, and furthermore, the part did not fit as easily as we had hoped. While we appreciate the eco-friendly approach, we cannot recommend this product for performance car enthusiasts who expect real gains.

Fits, works and costs half as much as an original BMW filter from the dealer. All performance comments are entirely subjective. Anyone telling you to change synthetic oil every 5km is probably in their 50s and is definitely overusing the oil and filter. I will definitely order this filter again.

I use this filter in two of my BMW diesel engines, a 2 liter X3 and a 3 liter 5 Series. I hire a local mechanic to change the oil (every 5000 miles) on both machines and supply the oil and filter for the task. If you are unfamiliar with diesel engines, you should know that engine oil turns black after 5 miles. Therefore, it is difficult to know if the filter is working. Presumably the filter catches larger soot particles, but who knows. I like the fact that the filter comes with a crush washer…
