I use this filter in two of my BMW diesel engines, a 2 liter X3 and a 3 liter 5 Series. I hire a local mechanic to change the oil (every 5000 miles) on both machines and supply the oil and filter for the task. If you are unfamiliar with diesel engines, you should know that engine oil turns black after 5 miles. Therefore, it is difficult to know if the filter is working. Presumably the filter catches larger soot particles, but who knows. I like the fact that the filter comes with a crush washer and housing o-ring. Plus, they're cheaper than what BMW sells from its dealers. I always keep one in the garage for my next oil change and buy Pennzoil Euro L oil at Walmart. An oil change with parts and labor costs a lot less than $60, which is why I change my oil at 5,000 mile intervals instead of every 10,000 miles as mandated by BMW.
