Current price

I use them for work. I'm in the film business and where are these everyday things. I do about five or six of these a year. They wear out no matter how well you take care of them. So price is a consideration. I can buy this one, which is basically the same as what I can get from my local supplier, who is either an audio film store or someone who sells them on set, for a quarter of the price. So for me it's a no-brainer.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Requires better metal/contact plating

Requires better metal/contact plating. this is the 3rd one. The previous 2 stopped working properly because the contacts were worn out (especially on the microphone contact) so I couldn't continue using this item. In my case, we pull out the radio at the start of each shift and usually keep the same unit for the entire shift. So the device connects once and disconnects again at EOD. The first wore out more than a year, the second a little less. Nevertheless, the price/performance ratio is…

Pros
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • Large and bulky

Don't spend more than $200 unless you're REALLY hard at it.

I guard our subway. We introduced shoulder mics, which I've always hated because passengers can hear what's being said up close (all the time). I bought one of these to see if I like it and I really like it. You get what you pay for the mic has to be held right up to your mouth to be heard because it's not the best quality. However, the earbud works great and like any other with daily use, you will need to clean it about once a month. The only caveat I have to mention is with these types of…
