could have been better!

I wish it had a strong steel handle. It ends in the middle of the handle. Don't hit it with a hammer to drill a screw hole, and don't use it as a punch for too long.

Pros
  • Tailor's Awl
Cons
  • It worries me

MAYHEW IS A GREAT TOOL

I managed to bend one of these through abuse, so I don't recommend prying it open to turn a screw on a chain shackle, for example. a good tool and it has a thicker shank than the ones I've seen from the Craftsman. The first one I bought was from Home Depot but I don't know if they are sold in all stores or even under that brand. Plus, it's excellent value for money.

Pros
  • Sewing Tools
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

Excellent Quality

This is a high quality awl. I bought my first at my local Home Depot. I ordered this to replace my original which I used to dig into an electrical box. It ended as you expected. Unless you lose that awl or do something incredibly stupid like me, it should last you a lifetime. I definitely recommend this tool, just don't try to work with electricity with it.

Well built solid awl

Bought to replace my 30 year old small awl after sharpening it on the grinder too many times. Compared to small, the grip is not soft, but fits my hand well. The barrel isn't chromed either, but it's no less thick. And strong enough to mark aluminum and mild steel. I have other Mayhew tools ie punches, chisels and crowbars and I believe they are all made in Iowa but I didn't check it on the packaging before throwing it away. If Chinese, then quality Chinese. I would buy it again. I could buy…

Pros
  • Sewing supplies and supplies
Cons
  • Out of style
