Enhance Cognitive Skills with Melissa & Doug Animals Wooden Puzzles Review

Bought this product for my niece and as soon as she received the product she tried to put the pieces in her mouth. As we watched her and quickly took her out of her mouth, we noticed that the stickers or pictures were peeling off. These products are not safe for children.

My baby is only 17 months old but likes to play by himself or with his hands. She often taps the pieces together like cymbals, but she also adjusts the image to fit the mold, pushing and pushing until she fits it. With the help of these puzzles we learned to pronounce the words "cat", "bird" and "dog". Great toy at a great price!

This puzzle is really cute, but the picture is only glued to the wood. My son once had a piece in his mouth and the drawing fell off! (See image) I'm a little disappointed and thought that such a high quality puzzle would have a much heavier print. Too bad it flakes off almost immediately.

We have an old wooden toy from Melissa & Doug - a great and sturdy farmhouse. This set has a thin layer of plywood in the middle with exposed fiberboard on the outside. Poor workmanship, split plywood sticking out where the scroll exits. Unlike a farmhouse, all surfaces are rough. We are looking for old quality toys. This one returns.

Sturdy, comfortable grip and easy to identify animals. I just wish they fit a little easier, my 20 month old baby gets a bit frustrated when it looks right but doesn't quite fit, but I think it's because the pieces are so thick and the puzzle is so sturdy. All in all a good buying and learning tool, can't be too easy can it? Would recommend to anyone with young children and children over 1 year old.

We bought 3 puzzles while expecting a baby. We opened one and found jigsaw puzzle pieces made from laminated chipboard which, when folded and removed from the base, leave sawdust behind. Unfortunately when we tried to return them we found that the return window had closed (missed for 2 days) and now we have these unopened puzzles that we won't be using. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Usually Melissa and Doug's stuff is the best, so we bought those first.

These are the only jigsaw puzzles I like to use for my son's age as they are really big and have a handle that allows him to turn and move the figure. My son is 1 year old. The quality is great and the design is very cute. I gave this one four stars because I ordered the puzzles as a two piece set and only received one. Both jigsaw puzzles had lots of scratches and the board has dents from the screw holding the handles to the jigsaw pieces. Some discoloration of the images is also noticeable. I also don't like that all those tiny "wood" chips are all over the puzzles. I put wood in quotes because it looks more like cheap chipboard that will eventually crack at the edges of each piece. I'm very disappointed as they looked very cute and I liked the size of the pieces.

I like Melissa and Doug's products, but these puzzles are no winners. My experience with my two toddlers who had them was that puzzles did not capture their attention around the age of 1 and by the time the fine motor and cognitive development skills in these puzzles were developed they were too boring.
