I bought this for my 2 year old daughter so she can't make the pattern component but she loves sorting the colors, fitting the shapes onto the pins and stacking them (and watching how they fall!). When we opened it, we noticed a pretty strong smell of smoke. My husband says it smells like food; I would say it looks like a fire. The box is covered with a thin, hard sheet of plastic that you need to put back on the box. This should work fine, but it won't work unless you carefully put all the pieces back in the box.
