Poorly made boot

We bought these for my son as we hike a lot. He didn't wear them until September 12th. We've done a few hikes since then but no playgrounds, muddy puddles or anything like that. Two days ago I put them on for a walk and the lace broke and then we realized that the eyelets that hold the lace in place had fallen apart. Wow! Less than a month. I also have two days after my return. Very disappointing! Poorly made shoes. Buy elsewhere and save your money.

Pros
  • Shaft height just below the arch of the foot
Cons
  • Cord shorter than others

First hiking shoe

So I'm a grown woman but I wear boy's clothes. I started hiking a lot with my nephew and he introduced me to the Merell brand. And I ordered a size 4 in width and walked this little girl for the first time yesterday. We walked over hills and pastures where there was tall grass, rocks, and slippery, dry ground. Not to mention cows. Yes cows lol. And let me tell you, my feet felt the difference. These are great shoes and very durable. We ran 2 miles last night and I know I was well equipped…

Pros
  • abrasion-resistant sole with M Select GRIP for superior traction
Cons
  • so far so good

Not real hiking shoes. Not strong enough

While these shoes fit my wide footed son well, their ability to negotiate rough terrain does not make them true hiking shoes. We bought them especially for my son so he can play with lots of rocks in the garden (that's what sneakers are for). We were at Disney for 10 days and the shoes looked great on the sidewalk. Three weeks later, playing in the backyard, the shoes looked like this. My son is not rough with shoes but the terrain is rocky and lives in the desert. He had a pair of old, hard…
