I was so excited to find that this dog food was the answer to everything I've been looking for in dry dog food. It contained real cuts of fish, wholesome grains, taurine, glucosamine and chondroitin (which is so important to the blue healer breed) and omega fatty acids. On paper, this is the perfect dog food. I have always bought Merrix for my dog because it is a quality food and he loves it. I bought Merrick's Hero Prize and as soon as I gave it to my dog, he started pooping blood and throwing up. I had to take him to the emergency room overnight on the vet's recommendation because his liver function test was abnormal. I believe in changing our dogs food every few months to ensure variety and a balanced diet. It seems to make them happy and excited before eating. I'm currently switching between Wellness Core and Merrick Backcountry Raw. Both brands have great reputations so I'm happy with the quality I offer and our dogs love both but there seems to be a little more excitement when a Merrick bag is opened.
