Sweet Potato and Kidney Stones

My little dog loved this food and I only gave her a few bites as a treat. At some point she didn't want to eat her wet food anymore, so I started giving her more of it. She eventually stopped eating all her food and drinking tons of water. I took her to the vet and they found out she had kidney stones. I researched online what causes kidney stones and found that sweet potatoes in dry food can cause kidney stones. I will not feed her this food anymore.

Pros
  • Decent performance

I think Merrick is the best pellet available

I have fed my 11.9 year old Rottweiler Merrick Pellets his entire life. I honestly put his above average age for a Rottie into the quality of Merricks Pellets. No heaps of fillers and preservatives. And I just keep his bowl full and he eats when he's hungry. It also fills up faster. This is my fourth Rottie and he is the longest lived and healthiest of my other three Rotties. And I undoubtedly contribute to the essential ingredients of Merrick Granules.

  • GOLS Certified

Snuggles loves to dry

Snuggles loves it. But what she likes best is your backcountry brand. Anyway, I've been giving her Merrick cereal for free since she was weaned and now she's 12 and as healthy as ever. The vet even guessed her age, saying she was 6 years old. I think grain free food will keep them young and healthy. Spending a little more on food for my pet reminds me of Bradley Cooper's Hit and Run character saying to the guy next to him in the cheap dog food line who's buying cheap dog food, yeah, this…

dogs love it! food grade

I went to the pet store and the shopkeeper said she was at the factory and they brought her a plate full of food and said it was a food sample before we turn it into dog food. She said it was delicious! So I tried it and my dog eats it and seems healthy and not fat! I've been using it for several years. I take care of other dogs and they bring their own dog food like gold and other good brands and they all love Merrick the most. Unless you feed them freeze dried food which is insanely…

Bad parties? best in food

I have fed my dog Merrick for many years. To be honest, he never "liked" food, but I was convinced that the food was healthier than most, and it was for his own good. The last two 22 pound bags I received my dog didn't touch. When he was hungry enough, he ate it, but only a small portion. Suddenly he had bad gas, loose stools, vomited and started to lose weight. I thought he had a cold and brushed it off. After a few days his condition didn't change, so I prepared chicken, rice and carrots for…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Reliable brand sent my dog to the vet

I've been using the Merrick for many years, I liked that my dog's coat was always shiny, he was active and energetic , no digestive problems at all. I have been an active promoter and have always recommended him to other Aussie owners. That last bag is a nightmare. It smelled "different", usually not a strong smell. The characteristic smell of a fresh bag, like when you first open it. I fed him the normal amount of 1 glass in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. 48 hours of absolute nightmare…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • I really don't like it everything is fine
