Passive cooling for PI4

Excellent! Before installing this heatsink case, I compared my Pi4 to an official standard RPi4 case and 3 standard adhesive heatsinks. The best temperature I could get while benchmarking with a prime loop found on ExplainingComputers was 71C (ambient temperature wasn't measured, but it was around 22-23C at the time). Cycle 2 ran at a whopping 82C! The small heatsinks simply could not dissipate the uncontrolled thermal condition. Tired of airing the cover and not getting better results. It was…

WOW Electronics on Computer Components

This is the "coolest", most expensive and most functional heatsink/case imaginable. If you're thinking of a Raspberry Pi 4 and plan on stressing it out or just worried it'll slow you down, get this one. I am serious. The Chinese are beginning to bother me. This is a RADIATOR to attach your little Pi to. This is a beautifully crafted two piece black anodized case with ribs all around and holes where needed. The case is attached to three heat-transfer hotspots, and there's room for airflow…

  • Decent performance

  • I'm worried

It works, but it's not perfect.

Bought this passive cooling case for a Raspberry Pi 4 that notoriously throttles under heavy loads. Prior to this purchase I had already seen several reviews of the FLIRC case for the RP4. It looks nice and satisfying and passively cools the RP4. But I've also heard that FLIRC's closed case involves WiFi signals; so i didn't buy it. I like the geeky look of this case; and some anecdotal user comments on the previous version indicate that it doesn't significantly affect the WIFI. So I decided to

Only a 10 degree temperature drop

When used on an Open Media Vault Pi 4 home media server that is mostly idle, I only have a 10 degree C temperature drop compared to a simple 3/4 " x found 3/4 " heatsink that was on top of the processor. It operates at around 52-54°C (125-130°F). The jig benefits from better machining as bars that fall onto components are not milled flat and the coating/paint applied to the jig also reduces thermal conductivity. Clear traces of processing can be seen on the underside. If the manufacturer reads…

Cons
  • Too long to wait

Approximately 15°C to 20°C drop in temperature.

This case/radiator performs great at both idle and full load. Its sturdiness transforms the feel of the Pi 4 from a flimsy device into a solid piece that you won't be afraid to slip into your pocket or dangle from cords. WiFi and Bluetooth interference is nominal. I will buy more as I use these devices in many different environments for my clients.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Too dull

Works very well as a heatsink. I'm removing two stars because it's not meant to be folded or attached to anything. Please note that you use fanless cooling mainly when you use hats and accessories that can be affected by fans such as DAC, DSP/ADC. etc. Unfortunately you cannot attach these hats as there are no lifting holes at the top. It also works amazingly well with the x735 power management hat, but again the hat isn't fixable. Overall the idea is great and it would be 5 stars if the…
