    Good probes, but one of 5 was broken

    Good probes. I use them for soldering BGA packages, so their reliability and accuracy are extremely important to me. These probes are fairly durable and will hold up well after a few jobs. The only issue I had was that the weld on the tip of one of the probes I received was broken and defective leaving only 4 out of 5 usable. Still good value for money despite a broken sensor, so overall I'm satisfied.

    Good, inexpensive thermocouples

    Media could not be loaded. Tested at 450C for 5 hours, still works great. Shrink tubing blown. The fiberglass insulation is fine except for the blue pigment that has faded or turned white. The brown color on the insulation in one section is most likely carbon deposits from the furnace condensing on the furnace inlet and not the thermocouple (but judge for yourself). The timing seems plausible, but apparently no better than usual for K-types. Looks like the next thing to do at higher…

    I have a handful of thermocouple wire, how sad!

    I have used various types of thermocouples at work and at home for many years. I looked closely at the photos of the plugs. Unfortunately these are not the connectors that came with thermocouples. These are stamped and ribbed brass connectors which I had to offset as they are not true K-type connectors. The first one I used required me to disassemble the connector and tighten the screws holding the thermocouple wire to this cheap piece of brass. If I didn't need two at once I would immediately…

    700°C equals 1292°F in sensors and temperature probes

    700°C is a problem for many thermocouples. Type K Alloy Wire: Chromel/Alumel (trademarks of Concept Alloys, Inc.) is rated at 1260 degrees C. Insulation is the limiting factor. They "look like" some type of ceramic fiber insulation, which is "high temp," depending on what it is. I only need half of the specified maximum temperature. I need to get to 640 degrees Fahrenheit, not 1292 degrees Fahrenheit. I guess I'll see how they hold up and update later. Yes, the heat shrink tubing will melt…
