The 1st wasn't particularly impressive.

I put two 5TB Seagate hard drives in the case. Both drives worked fine in the 1-bay StarTech case, so I know the drives are working fine. The first problem I noticed was that when configuring the enclosure for JBOD, I could only access ONE drive at a time even though they showed up as two drives. I ran two copy commands, one for each drive. The copy launched first has no problems accessing the disk. However, the second copy just hung and waited. As soon as I killed the first copy, the secondโ€ฆ

Heavy interference with Bluetooth devices

Not sure what I'm going to do with this drive. It's currently about 4ft from my BT mouse and constantly in the way. I have so many disconnects from both my mouse and keyboard, now I have an old wired mouse that is permanently plugged in. When the drive is plugged in, I also get erratic mouse movements. At the time of writing this review I've had at least 20 power outages. I bought 2 of these USB 3 drives. One came with FireWire and I reverted to that interface on an old Mac mini that I use as a

It's a 2.5 " two bay case!

I looked at several models and settled on this one. It works perfectly. Note the following: - I've had it for over an hour now it's running, transferring files, and it's cool enough that I can hold it in my hands without discomfort. It's slightly warm to the touch and has NO fan.Two discs rotate inside,2 standard hard drive spinners. The rear connector uses the Standard USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable unlike other models Two cables included One cable - USB-C - USB-C to USB 3.1 Gen 2. The other cable is

I wish I had bought this from the start

I've lost so much data using cheap USB sticks (especially StarTech, but lots of random non-brand ones too). They all either overheat when the fan dies silently, don't support SMART (so you can't tell when a drive fails), have fatal UAS or even USB drive errors, intermittently crash, or just don't work. general. I think a USB JBOD would be pretty much the simplest PC component to build: a power supply, a USB->SATA chip, some connectors and some steel. Apparently not. I've only had thisโ€ฆ

Works well on a MacBook with USB 3.1

I needed a portable storage drive that was larger than the current 5TB max capacity. This little RAID enclosure did it. It's a little bigger than I was hoping for, but it's still very wearable. It must have room for two 2.5 inch hard drives, so there is a size limit for such a device. I used drives from two Seagate 5TB external hard drive backups and installed them in this case. As others have pointed out, this voids the warranty on these drives, but given the significant price differenceโ€ฆ
