Not all programming cables are created equal. I've bought some that need drivers to work and others that I haven't been able to get working on the PC even after installing the drivers. This was plug and play. It cost a few dollars extra.

I received this cable (arrived in 1 day). Downloaded CHIRP and followed the instructions. I have Baofeng BF-F8HP. At first I thought it wouldn't work, but after making sure the cable was fully plugged in, it did. It made a distinct click when fully connected. In the CHIRP software I had to select COM5 to connect.

I spent too much time buying and returning cables until I came across this cable. Worked great with Windows 10 and my Wouxun HT. The cable that came with the radio worked in older Windows programs but not Windows 10. I didn't have to download any drivers, it was true plug and play. The quality of the cable is superior to the original and other cables I've tried. Thank you for a quality product that works.

First, I am a Mac user. So finding a USB cable that connects my Mac to CHIRP and my Baofeng with ease was a great first experience! I deliberately chose the bright red version so I can easily identify this cable in the USB cable socket. I would deduct half a star because the braided case comes undone after taking it out of the zip pocket a second time!? I'm a very property conscious person who has 35-40 year old gear in excellent condition, that's all.

I've used quite a few wires to program a variety of radios. I bought this on recommendation and after getting a new cable I got driver issues. This cable worked perfectly on Windows and MacOS without third-party drivers. It has an official chipset, not a fake one that needs drivers/support to work. A braided cable and an LED on the plug are particularly nice. No regrets, would buy more. I had trouble recognizing my radio from the computer when using a different cable so I bought it. I tried to download software that never downloaded for me. I downloaded CHIRP from the internet. After many hours of frustration, I still couldn't recognize my radio. As a last resort, cut the cover around the connector that goes into the radio. Baofeng Mirkit Series FTDI USB Programming Cable is much better than the standard BTECH version of this cable. I have found that I can program my UV-5R and UV-82 radios much faster than with a standard cable (download and upload speed to/from the radio is 7 seconds). Another really nice feature of this Mirkit edition is the sturdy case. It lasts much longer than the BTECH version and the included Velcro keeps it perfectly folded in the box with the kit.
