Mirkit FTDI USB Baofeng Programming Cable For Flashing Ham Radios: Wouxun Review

This cable works seamlessly on my Windows 10 laptop. I use CHIRP to program my Baofeng UV-5r. Cables with FTDI chip at the best price.

Bought to replace a Baofeng cable which I couldn't get to work on a Mac and was questionable on my PC too! It worked straight away and was instantly uploading and downloading files from CHIRP to my UV-82HP. It's worth the few dollars more it costs.

Couldn't get it to work. As Ellie Johnston said, "To my dismay, this isn't going to work. I see a light flicker in the first quarter of the plugin's movement, but nothing after that." I couldn't get it to stay on all the time, and my Windows 10 computer never recognized it. The company has had for over a year YEAR known quality issues. I expect this will be fixed. Return.

I was able to get this working after a few youtube videos and a few boards. In my case, I had to manually download the Prolific drivers from the manufacturer's website (CPU manufacturer, not cable manufacturer). Install the drivers and restart your computer. I could not find any help from the cable manufacturer. I would buy it again but would advise anyone unfamiliar with computers to look elsewhere.

Works great! No documentation, no problem. Just search "CHIRP Programming Guide" and you're good to go. A word of advice: some people may experience problems due to improper connection. Plug it into the radio, then squeeze well and it snaps into place. Anyway, I had a problem like that at first. I still can't believe how hard it is for you to click this. Anyway, I like Chirp, I find it very easy when you have advice on which tabs to click. Enjoy!

*EDIT* 12/26/19; It's been a few weeks since then but the company sent me a replacement and it actually worked. Big. I'm still leaving 4 stars as there may be a quality control issue, but overall my experience with this item/company has been very positive. Mirkit FTDI USB Model 1 works like a champ for programming BAOFENF UV-5R radios with CHIRP. Somehow Windows 10 PRO WILL NOT find and download a good driver contrary to many Revain and other reviews. Device Manager recognized the FTDI chip, but without the correct driver it was not recognized as a USB serial port. All attempts to force Windows to find and load a working driver have failed.
