I know there are cheaper devices out there but I like Mitutoyo instruments. I've been in the medical device industry for over 12 years and we've had their handheld micrometers everywhere. We've always used the slow turn, two click ratchet rule. I had a used one that I bought on eBay. Finances got a little better and I had a project that required dimension values, so I switched to this one. I like the higher speed (one turn) and it absolutely stands out.

Easily the best microphone I've ever used. An extremely fast movement combined with a superior ratcheting thimble provides incredible repeatability and helps eliminate user error. There's nothing more to say about that. I've used dozens of mics and most of them are high end. It's simply the best I've ever used, not even close.
