Very impressed with its performance

I have a variety of headphones priced from this pair to my $2000 Audeze LCD-3. I use these retros at work because they are closed. Before that I used my ATH-M40x when working with ZMF pads. I immediately liked the retros more than my M40s. The bass and soundstage are very interesting to listen to. Months later I still have moments when I think about how good they sound. I swapped out the pads for Brainwaves XL pads and it increased the bass and soundstage a bit, as well as being more…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Unnecessary Features

I hate to say Zeos was right, but.

Headphones sound "funny" for $30 headphones in my opinion. Yes, they have a pretty wide soundstage. Yes, they are pretty bass-heavy. Yes, they definitely benefit in terms of comfort from upgrading the pads to Brainwav XL. There is imaging technology, and while it seems to have fewer highs than some of the other stuff I have, it costs a lot less. They are great for R&B and rap. Masta Ace's Disposable Arts album sounds great. The problem is that I seem to miss parts of the sound in more neutral…

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Good but not great

Another great sounding product from Monoprice.

Until recently I've been using the Monoprice 8323 headphones, which many online users know are fantastic value for money. When I saw that Monoprice had new headphones that looked very similar to the AKG-style headphones, I thought I had to try them. I'm sure I'm glad I did. At first it seemed to me that the sound was a little different, but I couldn't understand what exactly I find different about it. The bass frequency seems to be at a different level than the 8323. It doesn't sound as punchy…

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Don't listen to these guys

, who says it sucks? I won't name names but I'm talking about ONE MAN who talks lewdly these and brainwavz XL earpads. yes they cost more than headphones, yes i got the idea from zeos. But I also have an HD600, an Ananda, a DT1990, and a specially modified Basscannon DT990, and I'm listening to this pair of $25 headphones with $28 earbuds. It really punches above its weight and is a permanent addition to my collection due to its amazing bass, phone controlled closed back and with the XL padz a…

Pros
  • The 50mm drivers are 25% larger than most headphone drivers, helping them reproduce a solid frequency response from 15Hz to 25kHz with deep and rich bass, clear and sparkling highs and punchy vocals.

Pop for Your Pennies

Not enough money? Don't despair. Monoprice Retro is here! First off, I don't think anyone would expect budget Monoprice phones to last more than a year. Your plastic building materials are not intended for long-term use. It was the same with my model 8323. After about a year of continuous use, doink! The left speaker cracked and broke right where it was attached to the headband. I decided to replace them with the retro Monoprice 116150 model. At the recommendation of others, I replaced them…

Pros
  • Professional sound in headphones suitable for everyday use. Looks good everywhere
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Someone at Monoprice gets fired for being labeled so low

First time I've literally dropped my jaw on a pair of headphones, and that's not counting the price! Stumbled across Z's review and the hype is real! REPLACING THE GASKETS OF BRAINWAVS XL (sheepskin or leather) MANDATORY! Large Brainwavz XL Interchangeable Memory Foam Ear Pads - Fits Many Other Large In-Ear Headphones - Sennheiser, AKG, HifiMan, ATH, Philips, Fostex, Sony (Black Leather) Headphones, I have done A/B tests with akg 712 and audeze lcd-2 and it convinced me to return my akg 702 for

Pros
  • Perfect for cell phones, Hafiz and AV products

One of the best headphone buys at any price.

You have most likely landed on this page because you saw a promotional review of the headphones on YouTube or someone suggested them in an audiophile forum you were on. In my case it was Zeos. Can Zeos overdo things from time to time? Yes he can. We can also get too carried away and find that two weeks later we're not as in love as we were the first few weeks after opening the box. That's why I waited eight months to review these headphones. I have headphones that range from $30 to $350. I…
