Description of MooMoo 4 Inch 2 Inch Carving Printmaking

Constructed of latex-free PVC which makes it soft, pliable and safer to use than linoleum. This innovative product “cuts like butter” and will hold even the finest of detail without breakage. The soft surface will readily accept transfers. Designs can also be applied directly with pen, pencil or marker. Because of its texture, the block can be cut into smaller pieces and all sides can be utilized

Disappointing results from carving tools

Thanks to my knowledge gained in practice of Arts and Crafts I was excited to try these carving tools for linocut prints. Unfortunately, I found the blades to be dull and the handles uncomfortable after prolonged use. The tools ended up producing inconsistent and messy prints. The only positive is that the set was affordable compared to other options..

Pros
  • Sharp and precise carving tool for printmaking enthusiasts.
Cons
  • Some cons

Alternatives

I wouldn't recommend this for cutting rubber stamps as there are better options. This brand (Moo Carve) tends to be a bit clumsy in their approach to carving tools: the parts they machine are less precise and more likely to crumble or crack. It's thick enough to be trimmed on both sides, but that's not a big deal if the images are messy. Speedball's Speedy Carve (not Speedy Cut) and Inovart's Smooth Cut are better and cheaper.

Pros
  • Soft surface for easy transfers
Cons
  • So far so good
