The pin must be removed before removing the brake lever! And it stays on a pin. The front exhaust pipe must be loosened or removed to remove this pin. If you have a one-piece system, it means the entire exhaust system is weakened. I'm trying to remove the bolts that hold the master cylinder in place and push the entire mechanism forward just far enough to pull the pin out, ie IF I can remove the cotter pin. This brake lever looks great on the bike but had to be modified to fit. Was not a direct replacement for the stock lever on my 2016 Road Glide. I had to drill a hole to fit over the studs on the frame. It wouldn't slip at all. I also had to file a smaller hole for the pin to go through to connect the rear brake master cylinder rod.
