Great Backpack - Backpacks

My daughter chose this backpack because she needed a backpack strong enough to hold all of her survival gear. It has a lot of space. She's happy with it but I'm concerned about the bar at the top which can get in the way of her walking by catching on things because it's not big enough. What's the point if the frame sticks out like that?

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Nothing

mountainsmith youth backpack

Great backpack had plenty of room for a week's hike. Pockets are great for organizing your gear. This backpack is designed for older teenagers or adults. The only thing this backpack lacks are load stabilizers. Besides, it wore well. I like the side slide through the bag, it's a great place to put your rod in.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Long time

Bent and broken. on Backpacking Packs

Bought two backpacks for my sons, both were damaged. I bought this miner a few months ago. I tried it on for my son yesterday and found the frame is bent, the shoulder strap pin is bent, the frame is scratched and patched, and the plastic plug on the frame tube has chipped off. Another prize for used scrap from Revain.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Only available in white

He needed a backpack that could hold the required number of items and still be reasonably adjustable and comfortable. This backpack fits! We bought it in 2010 and he still uses it and it still fits him. Next year or next he might be a bigger size but as a little guy for his age this is the best option. We have used youth packs from REI and Kelty and this is by far the best. Pockets provide easy access to his…

Mountainsmith Youth Scout External Frame Pack

I ordered two of these packs for our sons (ages 8 and 11) to use on weekends or week-long hikes. enable long-term use. The shoulder straps can be extended and retracted in about 1 inch increments (on each side, so moving them in a notch will move them a total of 2 inches closer together). Similar adjustments move the waist belt up and down. It took me about 10 minutes per pack to set them up. Despite the significant differences in each boy's physique, I managed to fit him in size almost…
