My gun microphone runs on and requires 48V phantom power, but can also be used with an AA battery. With an AA battery in place, I can speak at a normal volume when the mic is 2 feet away and still hear the caller loud. However, with this phantom power I have to reach 2 inches and scream in for something to come out the other end.
