On almost all of my other size 9 shoes, the distance between the big toe and the toe is about the width of a finger or the width of a thumb. So they definitely end. I bought these shoes at a local store but they were too narrow for my feet. I was able to order them here in the color I wanted, 4E wide, and they fit well. My left foot feels tighter in the shoe, it was the same with a size D shoe, probably due to the flat arch on that foot, but to be honest I've never experienced that with any other shoe, only the New Balance 515. I just bought these shoes and wear them around the house and they are standard New Balance dress shoes (great). I bought these 515s to replace my old 574s which were great but needed retirement.
