Works well if you find the right volume control.

This device is now working properly and is the perfect complement to my laptop which didn't have a built in microphone. When I first plugged it in, I couldn't get it to hear me unless I yelled at it directly. I cranked up the volume controls and it still wasn't picking up any sound. Then I found a screenshot with a microphone test plan. It still didn't work until I clicked the device properties button. This triggered another volume slider and it was set to zero! DO NOT BUY. Barely audible.

complete scrap. I'm a songwriter and audio engineer. I just needed something inexpensive to replace my broken MacBook built-in microphone for Facetime, Siri, etc. With full amplification and normal volume conversations within 6 inches of the mic, it barely registered. -37dBFS. It's so quiet it doesn't really work. Extremely disappointed.

The microphone works perfectly, BUT only after you have set the volume in the microphone properties from -0- to 100

The device is permanently installed in the USB port. At first glance, the sound is very weak and you want to return it or just throw it away in disgust. However, the device's microphone level setting is set to -0- (zero) by default and must be set to 100 for it to work properly. The microphone works fine but I give the product a 4 star rating because I had to manually set the audio level to 100. You might think that the default audio level is 100. Anyway, assuming Windows 10, go to your control
