I love the plaid. I bought a smaller size (great size for a dwarf hamster). Easy to assemble, takes 30-45 minutes. The rubber bands are ok, although I had 3 breaks (they charge extra). I'd say rubber bands are fine if you plan to take the cage apart at some point, but if you plan on keeping the cage in good condition, using wood glue and aquarium silicone to seal the liner instead of the duct tape would be a great idea. I love this cage. But he has flaws. One side was damaged, so the silicone ring doesn't hold. Also pay attention to the sides. I didn't and had to take everything out and swap them. This case is large (well above the recommended minimum as it should be!) and the Niteangel products are fantastic. I bought a medium size for my dwarf hamster and it is definitely larger than the 40 gallon breeding cage he currently lives in. There is a big hole at the top.
